Supported cameras

Post by NMO »

Hi, can you give me some hints where I can find alternative cameras? I have the IMX219 which is included but I would need a camera which has global shutter and can be used with a zoom lense.

Hi NMO,

This is a tricky border between the world of ready-to-use DIY cameras and advanced camera modules designed for electronics developers.

In our experience, the most friendly modules can be found at Arducam and Waveshare.

Thanks for the info!
No worries, the IMX219 is fine.
One more follow-up question: You mentioned here that the cameras should be calibrated using the newer fisheye calibration. Why fisheye calibration? The IMX219 are wide-angle cameras and not fisheye.

well, the IMX219 is actually the optical sensor. And we have a bunch of camera modules built on it with a lot of different optics (normal, wide, extra wide/fisheye).
There are two reasons for using the fishey code:
- it's fresher :-)
- it handles both "normal" and "fisheye" cameras equally well, so it's universal

That's fun, but even on "normal" cameras from RPi (declared as non-distortial), fisheye code finds and fixes small barrel distortion :-)
