waveshare camera

Post by Mr-Qu33f »

Hello,
Just picked up my stereopi deluxe kit. I assembled the waveshare 160 degree cameras onto the board to test and found significant artefacts in one of the lenses. I have attached a photo, there are three circled all together

.
After seeing this, I removed the lense from the camera and found that the sensor has some kind of substance on it that I assume is glue, likely from when the lense has been attached.

on closer inspection, it seems that the sensor itself is cracked. I've sourced a replacement which should arrive saturday hopefully

Well, Mr-Qu33f , as they says "shit happens". It's first time I see new, not used and already defective Waveshare camera! :-)
I planned to propose you replacement procedure, but I see you've already ordered new one. Let me suggest you to refund your additional camera. I'll write you personal email to discuss how can I transfer money to you.
Hope it is Ok with other cameras and, the most important thing for me, with the StereoPi!

Realizator,

First off, thanks for SLP image 190325.img and Boot file Stereopi-0.2.2.tar.gz Except for the few items on your to do list, the control and photo capture using an iPhone is working good for me. I am thinking about adapting the code to do a stereo timelapse.

I do have an issue with one of my V1 cameras.

. It has it's focus set short so that infinity ( even at a few meters) is not in focus. I can try to remove the adhesive around the one edge of the lens and try to set the focus to match its mate. If you have had any good experience doing this I'll give it a try. I can keep using the out of focus V1 during my development time, but I will probably upgrade to the V2 cameras anyway in the future.

Hi DaveL,
Focus problem is very old, as roots are at the factory tuning.
1. For V1 cameras there are lot of guides for focus tuning (like this one)
2. With the V2 cameras Raspberry Pi adds one special thing, described here on Pi forum, right for this focus adjusting purpose.

Actually, I found my V1 lenses also not ideally focused. I was able to mention this after zooming my photos. I plan to refocus them.

By the way, manual refocus with the visual feedback (looking at the monitor) is obvious approach. But I'm curious, is there any software for estimation of focus achieved, like this is done in DSLR. The easiest approach I see at this moment is to capture image and compress it to JPEG. The more JPEG size, the more focus you have. Discrete cosine transform (DCT) used in JPEG gives more data for images with more sharpness. The most difficult part here is to prevent camera moving while making a photo and adjusting a focus, as image scene should be absolutely the same. Theoretically it is possible to write script, indicating your current focus quality (JPEG size) in real time with a comfortable indicator. I need to think about it. Any ideas?
