Ethernet port removal

Post by NotPorgu »

Just like he title says, I need to remove the ethernet port from my stereopi v2, mainly due to it being in the way of another component I'm trying to use in my project. (A bonnet for the 40 pins). I haven't done a lot of work on pcbs, but I think I'm pretty ok at soldering, but I don't know that I have the tools to remove the port, and i don't want to damage my board.

I do have a great gun that supposedly gets up the 1100 degrees, but it's just a generic brand and I'm not sure how reliable that is. Not to mention I'm worried I'll accidentally remove or damage other components.

I think I have 3 options right now, and I was gonna see if I could get opinions on which one to try first.
I can either, try to use the heat gun and hopefully not melt or break anything.
I could go to a local computer repair store and see if they could do it for me,
Or I could get a stereopi v2 slim off croud supply and only install the ports and stuff i need. Downside is it'll take a few weeks.

Any advice or help is greatly appreciated!
