Anyone willing to build a simple 3D Camera?

Post by ThaneGreyhaven »

Greets!

I was wondering if anyone would be willing to build me a simple 3D Camera for taking stereoscopic pictures. I've tried twice now on my own and failed miserably both times. At this point I would just like to have the dang thing. I'm of course willing to pay for all materials and time!

Features I'd like it to have:
• rechargeable battery
• flash
• LCD screen

I'm in Canada, in case that makes a difference for shipping or whatever.
Thank you for your time and attention to this post!

Hi ThaneGreyhaven,
Am I right understand, that you want to get assembled and working solution, instead of a DIY set?

That is exactly correct! I've tried to DIM (Do it Myself) twice now and I have seriously failed at it. I'm good at a great many things, this turns out to not be one of them.

I think some of the makers will decide to help you. Or we'll create a kit with all components you need, and you just assemble it.

Let me ask you a few questions.
1. Do you understand, what cameras do you need? "Classic" v1/v2, or wide-angle, or new high-resolution HQ cameras?
2. What is the main purpose - a stereoscopic photo or a stereoscopic video?
3. What is more important for you - small size or long battery life?
4. You mentioned flash. Plan to take photos in the dark or low light conditions?

Thanks! As long as the assembly is pretty basic, I SHOULD be able to put it together.

1) I was using the v2 camera, and I don't think I need anything as fancy as the new HQ. (Didn't even know about them until you mentioned it, took a look and it's over the top for what I want)

2) The main purpose is stereoscopic pictures. Video would be nice, but by no means necessary.

3) Long battery life would be best. I was originally thinking of getting just simple 5000mah battery bank and using that, but if you know of something better, I'm all ears.

4) I'm not planning on low light photos, but it's one of those things that I'd rather have and not need than need and not have. I supposed some kind of switch to turn the flash on and off would be needed.

As for the LCD, it would basically just be so I could browse pictures that were taken. The camera itself should be point and shoot as much as possible. The fewer options the better actually.

Thanks for looking into this! It's muchly appreciated!

ThaneGreyhaven, the key question for me now is the appropriate TFT screen.
I see a lot of options near 3-3.5", but all of them have a size like the classic Raspberry Pi.
Small screens, like 1.44" screen, are too small.
I found an "ideal" size, 2.2", but looks like this screen rather old and poorly produced now.
If you can help me with other screen options, it will be great! The key point for us is to get a well-known, mass-produced item, but not an exotic thing from Aliexpress, where it can disappear the next day.

Agreed, something standard would be best. But I'm not very familiar with raspberry pi parts and what's good and what isn't.

But there is a store here in Canada that I was looking through that might have what you're looking for.
