Stereo delay and synchronization

Post by BesozziAlberto »

Hi, I'm new here, I have a question concerning the stereo delay between two camera.

I read that HQ camera can be hardware-synchronized to obtain really low latency, but they are very expensive, so I would ask two things.

1. There are camera solutions "cheap" with the hardware synchronization possible?
2. How much is the rated delay between the two camera in a software solution synchronization? I hear milliseconds, but there is a number or something I can work with?

Thank you in advance

Hello,

In our experience you can have a delay of less than units of milliseconds for days even without the hardware sync. It's importand that this is achieved with the ol video subsystem (MMAL/raspivid/raspistill), which is used in our images.

HQ cameras a great and expensive, yes. But you can do a hardware sync for any other couple of cameras if some hardware tinkerink does not hurt you. The idea is each camera has its own oscillator, so you unsolder an oscillator on one camera and solder wires from another oscillator. In this case one oscillator works for both cameras. Here is how these cameras looks like after this process: https://blog.arducam.com/dual-camera-ha ... raspberry/ In this example a couple of cameras are used with Arducam board, but you can use it with any compatible SBC (StereoPi, Jetson, etc.)
